the evenings out here - Thoughts, rants and musings about absolutely everything except photography. Or cats.

Start New Game

to sleep, perchance to dream ?  I doubt it.

After over two years of intensive work on the Playyoo Flash Lite user-generated casual game platform, I’ve now reached the final score screen and run out of lives…

Playyoo carries on without me, and, I can assure you, is under constant development by the team (in the office next door). I’m sure they’ll be only too pleased to take advantage of my unsolicited advice and opinions over the coming months :-)

My own very mixed feelings about leaving it behind have been alleviated by the challenge of taking on not one but several key roles in Imaginventure’s next big thing (still top secret), and getting a very welcome and very clear statement of confidence from The Boss.

For the first time in my working life, I’ve also been offered the opportunity of working part time for a period, which I’ve grabbed with both hands, although I’m afraid it could go much faster than I expect.

American Peyote

Another site about photography and other stuff. And in Switzerland!

in General , Monday, February 23, 2009

I discovered an interesting website today, maybe worth a visit if you’re into photography, blogging, startups, all that stuff. Not quite sure which blog to put this in, since it’s as schizo as I am! American Peyote is run by a Switzerland-based American, Mark (in Wintertur, which is about as far away as you can get from me Lugano without falling out of Switzerland). The site seems a bit slow, but it is entertaining…

Welcome, Yaika

My friends in Tallinn get their lifestreaming application off the runway

in General , Monday, June 09, 2008

Trying out the brand new Yaika service today, freshly delivered from my friends in Estonia. The sky outside my window... Yaika is a "lifestreaming" application, a mashup of videostreams, audiostreams, blogs and much else, all wrapped up in a very fresh and attractive design. For such an ambitious and complex service, it is quite remarkably stable and glitch free. Give it a try - it's fun!

More sad, sad excuses for lack of web activity

I'm trying to get Movable Type 4 back under control, as a first step towards making some desperately needed bug fixes and updates to this site. I've gone back to using default templates (not an easy process in itself), so that I can start to use MT properly rather than fight with it. At least, now, I hope that comments work again. Sorry.

Upgraded to MT4.0.1

in General , Tuesday, December 04, 2007

Well I finally managed to upgrade to Movable Type 4.0.1, after I worked out what was going wrong. Here's a tip: make absolutely certain that you're uploading all MT files in ASCII mode, or it will all go horribly wrong. Whatever Six Apart may say, Movable Type still isn't for the faint-hearted. Then again, for all I know Wordpress is just as tricky. Anyway, it was certainly worth it. Version 4 is really a huge improvement over its predecessors, at least so far as configuration is concerned. The new administration interface makes maintenance much easier, and I was finally able to sort out quite a few of the nasty glitches in my comment form & response pages very quickly...I hope. Even got captchas working at last, although I haven't yet worked out how to configure things so that a correctly captcha'd comment gets automatically published. It will be interesting to see how spam traffic is affected.
