Playyoo: The Bee Game

Friday, January 25, 2008

We're getting some really great games uploaded by early adopters at Playyoo. It isn't really fair for me to single any out, but I'm going to anyway. "The Bee Game" by Ifons is really excellent. It manages to pack in two different game plays, as well as a cute intro and great graphics, into one small game, based around the idea that you're a bumble bee trying to fly around and avoid a sticky end.... Totally addicting grin Take a look on YouTube:

Fun’n'games

Friday, December 28, 2007

We're starting to see some really good quality games coming into Playyoo. There was some concern, both inside and outside the team, that we would be overwhelmed by trivial games made with the Game Creator, but actually, we're seeing both some pretty imaginative stuff coming out of the Game Creator, and some really good games coming from Flash Lite developers. Today's "Pick of the Day", Orang Bunian, by Faisal Arbain, is just one of many examples. Now we have to ramp up the site's features to do justice to the quality of the user generated content...

sex

SEX SEX SEX Got your attention ? Good. So has "Giriboss", creator of the already highly popular Playyoo game "Sexy Celebrities". As is well documented, there is really only one driver for building traffic on the web. sexy.jpg He's not the only one. He was soon followed by this... sexy2.jpg ..and this... sexy3.jpg ...and indeed this: sexy4.jpg So it looks like we're well on the way to web domination. However, in the popularity stakes, they're nowhere compared to this one... lolc.jpg

Playyoo goes live

Wednesday, December 12, 2007

Well, we've thrown the switch. Quite a few things exploded, and we all spent most of the night trying to pick the pieces off the floor, but we're now open - hesitantly - for business. So come on over to Playyoo and see for yourselves. Naturally, the best memes rise to the top, so we should not be surprised that we've already been invaded by LOLCatz. CAN I HAS GAME MOBILE ? ll_lolcatz.jpg Thanks for that, Kars grin The great thing about Playyoo, for me anyway, is when you're too ham-fisted to get anywhere with a game, well, hey, you can just make it easier... ll_dummies.jpg Or, if you're more into challenges, you can make it as hard as crossing the Nufenen Pass on a Spacehopper... ll_maze.jpg So, we're having fun. Well, briefly. Then it's back to bug fixing. It's a great relief to get Playyoo out in the world, and I'd very much like to thank everybody involved, even those who probably think I hate them. I don't. Playyoo was conceived on 13 Nov 2006, after a least one bottle of wine. It was launched on 12 Dec 2007 with a very fine bottle of champagne.

I’m a game creator

Friday, November 30, 2007

Well, by the time you read this, the Playyoo Game Creator Beta will be open to all comers (or I'll be giving away confidential secrets). All you need to do to try it out is sign up. No strings attached (well, apart from the fact that we might end up giving you $10,000) In no time at all, you can actually start making your own games. So far, we've got 6 different types for you to use as starting points. "Revenge" is our take on the classic "whack a mole", and I've immediately confirmed my status as a hopeless geek by choosing a target so obvious, so old, that I should be ashamed of myself... bsod_grab.jpg

Whack A Bill. Note the humourous blue screen of death

A slightly more creative undertaking, and one I'm a little more proud of, is a memory game made up of images of Iceland, and which reveals an Icelandic flag when you solve it. We've got a few tricks up our sleeve for this one... explorer_grab.jpg But for me, the piece-de-resistance (that's French for" pretty tricky to implement") is Line Lander, a cross between the famous Line Rider and the venerable Lunar Lander. Build your own planet and land your own spacecraft on it, fiddling with the laws of physics along the way (oh yes I can, Scotty): ll1.jpg Unfortunately, we haven't yet solved the challenge of making me any good at actually playing the things... ll_crash.jpg Well, it is a Beta.
