#39 Fanal

Fanal forest is located just below the Paul da Serra plateau on the northwest part of Madeira, 1200 meters above sea level. I’m not sure it really qualifies as a forest anymore. It puts me more in mind of an English woodland deer park (with cows rather than deer). Due to the subtropical climate of the island the area is very often shrouded in mist and fog, but on this particular occasion is was just outside of the dense fog cover that made traversing Paul da Serra a bit tentative. The stars of the forest are the ancient fetid laurel “stinkwood” trees, tortured and twisted into fantastical shapes.

Photographically it is a treasure chest, but that chest is not so easy to unlock. This is one attempt.

This set was mostly shot with the OM System OM-1, with a sprinkling of Ricoh GRIIIx
