#37 Boundaries 3

This entry follows on from two of my earliest Photo Diary entries, Boundaries 1 and Boundaries 2.

The first two sets were dedicated to “the strangeness of deserted minor border crossings at night“, on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Here I’ve tried to keep the strangeness, but allowed in some daylight. These border crossings for the most part had their heyday last century, pre-Schengen, with a brief revival at Peak Covid. Generally the facilities are un-manned, to the point of abandonment, especially on the Italian side. There are some interesting relics of the past to be found… especially on the Italian side.

I’m gradually moving towards making a Project of this, where all the photography will be analog. My intent is to capture atmospheres and abstractions, perhaps hinting at meaning, but not making any statements.

All these locations are actually within easy cycling distance of my home. The camera I use will largely depend on the mode of transport (or vice-versa). By bike, probably Minox. But if I want to use the Hasselblad, it’s going to be car! For the XPan and OM-4, I guess I will depend on how lazy I feel. And how hard it is raining.

This set was shot on Kodak Portra 400, Olympus OM4Ti, 35mm, 50mm or 85mm lens.
